CF BASEBALL 9, LAKE-SUMTER 7: At Leesburg, The Patriots (22-13, 7-4) moved to within 1/2 game of the lead in the MFC by holding off the LakeHawks (15-16, 2-12).
Mike Cetta (5-4) limited LSSC to one run on four hits in six innings, as CF ran out to a 9-1 lead.
From there, the LakeHawks scored six times in the eighth inning and had the tying run at the plate with one out in the ninth.
Kenny McDonald, though, induced a double play for his first save of the season and CF upped its record to 2-0 against LSSC this season.
The Patriots have now won five of their last six conference games.
Josh Ellzey (1 for 3, home run, three RBI), Christian Khawam (3 for 4, two runs scored, RBI, double), Ryan Smith (2 for 5, runs scored, three RBI, triple) and Robby Jolley (2 for 5, two runs scored, double, two RBI) paced CF at the plate.
CF scored three times in the second to snap a 1-all tie and then added three more runs in the fifth.
From there, Ellzey smacked a two-run homer, before the LakeHawks made things interesting late.
