OCALA-- NJCAA No. 17 College of Central Florida women's volleyball hosted a non-conference match with Santa Fe College and NJCAA No. 6/FCSAA No. 3 St. Petersburg College on Saturday afternoon at Patriot Gym.

CF (11-6 overall, 3-1 MFC) went 1-1 on the day, opening with a 25-10, 25-16, 25-17 sweep of Santa Fe before falling 3-0 (23-25, 17-25, 20-25) to the nationally-ranked Titans.

The Lady Patriots were rolling on all cylinders in the first match.

Marina Cruz led all attackers with 12 kills, her seventh match with 10 or more kills. Buse Ene added 11 kills and Veronica Brod Farias had nine.

Julia Cardoso recorded her fourteenth 30+ assist game with 35 and Yomaries Villegas added 14 digs.

Mental errors and poor execution were the demise of the Lady Patriots in the second match against St. Pete.

Ene and Cruz were held to just six kills apiece, while Taynan Paiva added five kills. The Titans held the Patriots to 25% kill percentage in the first and third sets.

CF will host two critical, conference matches this week: Daytona State College on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Polk State College on Thursday at 7 p.m. All three teams are tied for first in the Mid-Florida Conference at 3-1. Polk holds the series lead over the Patriots, while CF holds the series lead over Daytona, and Daytona holds the series lead over Polk.

A win against both teams will poise CF to clinch their seventh Mid-Florida Conference title and a trip to the state tournament. A loss against either team would drop CF to at least second place in the conference and would have to fight for their life in the playoff to secure a state tournament spot.
