#CFVB takes season opener at South Florida State

OCALA-- NJCAA No. 10/ FCSAA No. 3 College of Central Florida volleyball team and new head coach Angel Gonzalez took the season opener in straight sets over South Florida State College on Thursday night in Avon Park.

The Lady Patriots (1-0) got off to a slow start, rallying to beat the Panthers 25-23. They regrouped and cruised through the second set 25-15, and closed out the match with a 25-20 third set.

"Overall, we weren't at our best tonight, but it was good to get this first game under our belt and get the first win of the season," said Gonzalez. "We showed bright spots in the second set playing our style of volleyball… so we look to grow from that heading into our next match on Saturday."

Newcomer Julia Cardoso guided the ship, recording 35 assists on the night, while returner Nayrelis Pantojas tallied 12 digs on the backline. At the net, Carolin Santa, Kristin Schemm and Buse Ene each recorded six kills. Middle blockers Veronica Brod Farias and Taynan Paiva had three blocks each.

CF heads back on the road on Saturday as they travel to Florida State College at Jacksonville. Match is set for 1 p.m.
