OCALA-- The College of Central Florida volleyball team had no trouble with Lake-Sumter State on Tuesday evening. The Patriots (17-7, 5-1) need a little over an hour to handle the LakeHawks 25-13, 25-17, 25-11.
CF, which entered the night tied atop the Mid-Florida Conference with rival Santa Fe, improved to 10-0 all-time against LSSC.
In the first set, Nathaly Alvarez sparked a 6-0 start with her passing and serving for the Patriots. CF led 13-2, but saw the LakeHawks get to within 15-10. From there, a kill by Jussara Silva spared a run of five straight points for the Patriots, which was part of a 10-3 run to close the set.
The Patriots continued to roll in the second set and took the lead for good after a 4-0 run made the score 10-6. CF went up by double-digits at 19-9 on a kill by Silva and the LakeHawks never threatened the rest of the way.
Alvarez once again got the Patriots off to a great start with four straight points to start the third set, which was part of a 10-1 burst to start things. Lake-Sumter was unable to get back into the match and CF recorded its second sweep of the year against the LakeHawks.
The Patriots will visit St. Johns River State on Thursday evening at 6 p.m.
CF's next home match takes place Monday night at 7 p.m. against Hillsborough Community College. The Lady Patriots will be going PINK in honor of breast cancer awareness month. Be sure to come wearing your pink.
The final conference match for the Patriots will take place on the road on October 22 against Santa Fe.
