OCALA-- The College of Central Florida men's basketball team dialed up a major upset, going on the road to defeat NJCAA No. 25 Eastern Florida State College in the Mid-Florida Conference opener on Saturday afternoon at Titan Field House in Melbourne, Fla.
CF went into the half down 31-28, but came out firing on all cylinders in the second half, including 16 second-half points from sophomore guard Jeremy Shepperd, to out-score the Titans 43-29 in the second half to defeat EFSC 71-60. With the win, the Patriots kickoff Mid-Florida Conference play 1-0.
The Patriots held a 60-50 lead with 3:30 left to play in the game, but the Titans mounted a comeback forcing consecutive turnovers to close the gap to four points with 2:20 left on the clock. Shepperd would drain a three-pointer with two minutes to play to provide breathing room and help secure the eventual win.
CF will be back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Florida State College at Jacksonville for a conference doubleheader at Patriot Gym. The women will tipoff at 6 p.m. and the men will follow at 8 p.m.
