OCALA-- College of Central Florida baseball player James Nix was named the FCSAA Region 8 and NJCAA Baseball Player of the Week for games played February 18-24.
The freshman outfielder from Huntsville, Ala. batted .600 with 12 RBI, nine runs scored, three triples, two doubles and two home runs during the voting period. Nix recorded three, three-hit games, including going 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBI against then No. 1 Florida SouthWestern State College, to help lead the CF baseball team to a 5-0 record on the week.
Nix has hit safely in 16 of 19 games this season, batting a team-best .465 with 19 RBI, 27 runs scored, four home runs and seven stolen bases. He leads the state in batting average (.465) and ranks Top 3 in total home runs (4).
No. 1 Ranking: The CF baseball team has surged to the top of the state rankings as released by the FCSAA this week. The Patriots moved up two spots from No. 3 to No. 1 after going 5-0 on the week, including a 7-6 win over then No. 1 Florida SouthWestern. FSW, Seminole State, Northwest Florida State, and Santa Fe round out the FCSAA Top 5 rankings.
